Pan's Perceptions
Thinkin' 'Bout the King
You can say a lot with a big enough monkey.
Over 70 years ago, in the crux of the Great Depression, a filmmaker who made Indiana Jones look craven glanced up at the freshly-erected Empire State Building and saw a giant ape on top. Merian C. Cooper had made a name for himself filming wild beasts, tribal wars, safaris and marvelous landscapes. As he watched a biplane soar past this man-made wonder, he envisioned an ape perched on the spire, swinging his arms at the plane. That brainstorm later became one of the great iconic images of the 20th century. It took Cooper years to make his vision real, but since 1933 it's been a hallmark of popular culture.

This year at Origins, Laughing Pan Productions was proud to once again hold the annual “Play with Pan!” event Saturday evening.
This year we had record-breaking attendance and what had started as a table-top scenario quickly became what might be the Larpletop event of the year. Everyone who played contributed to a story that had several of us literally weeping at its conclusion—myself included, and I ran the darned thing.
Laughing Pan, and myself in particular, would like to hear from all of you who attended this event. Please send your contact information to: shavens@laughingpan.com.
